Fabio Daprelá, former defender of Brescia from 2010 to 2013, spoke about the match between Switzerland and Italy at Euro 2024. Here are his words to the Giornale di Brescia:
“It is clear that Switzerland comes to this match with enthusiasm and with the brilliance of a game that has made the qualification more than deserved, but Italy is still Italy, that is, a difficult team to face because it is a “competition team”, that is, accustomed to this type of do-or-die event”.
YOUTH AND EXPERIENCE – “I played with half of them, the other half of the guys I actually faced several times as opponents. They are a great mix of experience and youth and I am not surprised that they had a great group. But they must not underestimate Italy, who will not be the same as a few years ago and who did not make a particular impression in the first three games, but still have strong players. And it is a team that the more it advances, the more dangerous it becomes for everyone”.
THE MOST DANGEROUS MEN – “Ndoye and Aebischer have good numbers. Then there’s Xhaka there in the middle who directs everything and a defense like Akanji who doesn’t play for Manchester City for nothing. And what’s more, between the posts is a strong goalkeeper like Sommer, who won the Scudetto with Inter. In short, many very good individuals.”
CALAFIORI – “He no longer has the Baggio, Totti, Del Piero or Gilardino up front, I struggle to point out an attacker. However, looking back, the one who really surprised me is Calafiori (who however will not be there as he is disqualified, ed.), a great personality: I played against him when he was at Basel and I was surprised by the great leap he made in such a short time . But the pillar is Donnarumma. Anyone in front? Well – he smiles – if it’s a match day I’d focus on Chiesa, someone who can make the difference.”
THE MATCH – “I think that initially the two teams will study each other a bit while waiting for the other to make a mistake. Then, as time passes, both will play their cards and then anything can happen. That’s why I say it will be a triple challenge”.
