Chaos inside the Como prison. An inmate on the afternoon of Thursday 27 June would have in fact beat an officer causing some injuries. The policewoman was transferred to the hospital where she was discharged with a seven-day prognosis. The incident was reported by the territorial secretary of the Uilpa Penitentiary Police, Fabiano Ferro.

Detained in the Bassone Prison, the woman allegedly lashed out at the officer for what were defined as “trivial reasons”. After sending the policewoman to the hospital, the following day he set fire to the cell and attacked another female investigator: “To help their colleague, four other policewomen intervened to save the inmate from the flames, but due to high smoke inhalation, they were taken to hospital to undergo medical checks“. They too were discharged with a seven day prognosis. It is not clear why the inmate had these reactions.

The unions representing prison police officers have been complaining for some time “a difficult situation with a sharply increasing prison population and a sharp decrease in police personnel“. The Uilpa regional general secretary Sergio Gervasi also expressed his opinion on the case: “We are tired of continuing to talk about attacks, they happen all the time, because it now seems that they are part of a daily routine. Hearing about aggression is no longer news and unfortunately this situation is no longer tolerable and acceptable“, the newspaper reported The day.
