GALLARATE – “We have decided with conviction to nominate Gallarate to become the first Italian capital of Contemporary Art in 2026 because, without presumption but with extreme realism, we believe that a cities like ours can truly be considered an example of cultural and artistic richness”. Mayor Andrea Cassani announced this.

“We owe this candidacy to the many industrialists of our city who, since the last century, have in a far-sighted way produced wealth but invested important resources in culture, modern and contemporary art, creating what is a source of pride not only for our fellow citizens but for our entire region”.

The Lombard artistic heritage

“In Italy we know well that we are very lucky, given that there are many cities that certainly enjoy an artistic, cultural and architectural heritage superior to ours but, in terms of contemporary art, we do not feel inferior to anyone. And the very fact that the Lombardy Region, among all the cities and the artistic heritage on which it can count, chooses to support and promote our city is symptomatic of the credibility of our candidacy”.

“Thanks to the industriousness of the many entrepreneurs who have invested in the culture of doing, creating culture in city we have two museums, four theaters, two libraries and a state conservatory (one of the few in Italy in a city that is not the capital) a clear sign that the arts have always been a peculiarity that has distinguished our city. We are already continuing in the footsteps of those who preceded us, investing in training, on education and culture and we believe that obtaining this recognition, in 2026, the year in which among other things there will be the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, for which Malpensa airport, our partner, will be the main gateway for the many tourists and professionals who will arrive, will bring an undoubted benefit to us and to all of Italy, showing that you don’t have to be a big city to create great culture”.
