Messina, Violent Assault at Papardo: OSS Punched by the Son of an Elderly Patient

Livio Andronico, general secretary of Uil-Fpl of Messina, strongly condemned the attack suffered by a Social Health Worker (OSS) at the Papardo Medical Department. The episode that occurred yesterday morning saw the employee repeatedly hit in the face with violent punches, suffering serious head and facial trauma, including a broken tooth, so much so that he required urgent medical attention at the Emergency Room.

According to initial information, the attack was triggered by the son of an elderly patient, who accused the OSS of having behaved inappropriately towards his father the previous day, a circumstance promptly denied by the worker involved.

Livio Andronico expressed deep solidarity with the worker and announced the decision of Uil-Fpl to join the civil action in the legal proceedings against the aggressor. He also harshly criticized the working conditions of the employees of the Health Sector, highlighting the excessive workload and the lack of an adequate surveillance service that exposes workers to continuous risks for their safety.

“What happened is a very serious fact which demonstrates the need for immediate and concrete interventions to guarantee the safety of hospital workers,” declared Andronico, hoping for a clear and decisive intervention from the Papardo management in the face of an event of such serious importance .
