The mayor of La Valle, a municipality in Alto Adige, lost his life in a mountain accident. Angel Miribung. Yesterday he was climbing Piz Bernina, a 4,000 meter peak in Grisons, Switzerland, with a friend, when he fell and died instantly.

The alarm was raised immediately, but the thick fog prevented rescuers from reaching the accident site and forced the search to be interrupted in the evening. Only today was the helicopter able to take off and the lifeless body was recovered.

Daniel Alfreidervice-president of the SVP of which Miribung was part, remembers him in a message: “Our community has lost a man and a politician who, with his profound sense of justice and his sensitivity for people, worked tirelessly for the good common,” he wrote on social media.

“I will miss his countless visits to Bolzano and our meetings in La Val and, above all, our friendship – he continues – My condolences to his family, his wife, children and grandchildren. A strong hug”.

This is not the first fatal mountain accident in recent days. On Wednesday, a 49-year-old Austrian tourist lost his life in Val Pusteria while climbing the Cima della Capra, while yesterday the body of a 56-year-old Belgian mountaineer was found who had not returned from an excursion on Croda del Clivio, above Naturno, in Val Venosta.
