The highest honor of the Tuscany Region has been awarded to Lucca Comics & Games: the Pegasus Gold Medal.

In past years, among others, the prize has been awarded to entities such as the European Gravitational Observatory in Cascina, for research on gravitational waves (2017) or personalities from the world of culture such as the writer and intellectual Luis Sepùlveda (2013) and the Oscar winner Roberto Benigni (2003) and Jerzy Grotowski (1998) as well as giants of recent international history such as Jacques Delors (1995), Mikhail Gorbachev (1993) and Jasser Arafat (1998).

In this 2024, the Tuscan Regional Council has chosen Lucca Comics & Games, the fair, the festival, the community event, which for almost sixty years, decade after decade, has acquired an increasingly incisive cultural role in the community, recognizing this event also for its ability to raise awareness among participants through strong messages related to socialization, inclusion and respect for others brought in particular to young people. Added to this is the important work of promoting the regional territory throughout the world.

In fact, every year, what is recognized as the most important pop culture event in the Western world, bears the name of Lucca, Tuscany and Italy throughout the world, attracting an international audience of enthusiasts to the regional territory, but also and above all a large parterre of authors, creatives and journalists from the four continents.

The Pegaso Gold Medal, in fact, is awarded by the Tuscany Regional Council as a sign of appreciation for those who have distinguished themselves in the context of their activities carried out in the territory of our region. It reproduces the figure of the winged horse Pegasus, chosen as the symbol of the Tuscany Region since the first legislature, taken and partly modified from a coin attributed to Benvenuto Cellini, now preserved in the Bargello National Museum in Florence.

The award was collected on behalf of all those who contribute with their work to the realization of the event by the general director Emanuele Vietina who, receiving it from the hands of the president of the Region, Eugenio Giani, recalled: “This is another stage in a fantastic story made by hundreds of people who have succeeded each other in sixty years of history. This recognition goes to all of them. A community, which lives and has lived collectively, happily flapping its colorful wings”.

Also present at the delivery were the sole administrator of Lucca Crea Nicola Lucchesi, the mayor of Lucca Mario Pardini, the regional councilor Stefano Baccelli and a large representation of the working group, which generation after generation keeps the soul of Lucca Comics & Games and contributes every year to giving life to a magical and evocative event.
