These are the images of the posters put up in the city this morning, accompanied by the claim “True Foggians are seen in times of need” and which together make up the awareness campaign for the collection of dog waste curated by the Councilor for Social Policies with responsibility for animal welfare, Simona Mendolicchio, and the Councilor for the Environment Lucia Aprile.
“It is not an extemporaneous but strongly desired initiative, an indication of the sensitivity also attested by the specific delegations assigned by me because our four-legged friends are members of our families, life companions of all of us and this relationship must be considered in its many aspects social implications”explained the mayor Maria Aida Episcopo.
“The management of dogs requires a conscious choice, which must also consider the consequences for the community” underlined Councillor Mendolicchio, a veterinary surgeon by profession: “Uncollected faeces in every urban context, from sidewalks to streets, from green areas to parks, in addition to creating problems of urban decorum, pose health and hygiene risks, and only disabled and partially sighted people with guide dogs are exempt from this.”, he recalled. Councilor Aprile announced that “collection points will increase, trusting in their correct use”.
Sanctions are foreseen for transgressors, but the hope is that the re-educational sphere will be sufficient and prevalent compared to the repressive one, thanks to the collaboration of citizens: “Civic rebirth passes through small daily gestures and good habits such as collecting cigarette butts thrown on the ground and recycling waste, to give just a few examples. We will continue with these campaigns, which will proceed in parallel with the administrative action”, the mayor concluded.
