TRIESTE – Work is in full swing at the Generali Convention Center Trieste in view of the Social Week of Catholics in Italy scheduled from 3rd to 7th July in various locations in Trieste and in particular in the multifunctional spaces of the largest conference center in the Northeast overlooking the sea, which will also host the visit of Pope Francis.

As part of the event, from Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th July the Congress Center will host the program dedicated to delegates from the Dioceses, associations and movements, giving space to morning biblical reflections, plenary assemblies and Participation Workshops – discussion tables afternoon work dedicated to in-depth study of the themes – in addition to the delegates’ lunches. On Sunday 7 July, for the last day, it will be the Pontiff’s turn, who will bring his greetings to the delegates before going to the city center for the Eucharistic Celebration.

The numbers

A total of 14 days were spent to set up the spaces to welcome the 900 participants in the Social Week of Catholics in Italy and the Holy Father. During the set-up days, 20 people are involved, including employees, collaborators and suppliers of the Congress Centre, which will rise to 70 during the actual course of the Week. The event involves the entire area, Warehouses 27 and 28 which cover 10,000 m2, of which all six rooms and two halls will be used. During the Week, the morning works, in the plenary session, will be hosted in the Generali Auditorium, set up with 900 theater-style seats to accommodate the delegates, and the afternoon ones will have the privileged location of the hall of Magazzino 27, where the spaces will be set up for the 35 thematic work tables of 20 people each (a further 10 will be located in Warehouse 26 of the Municipality of Trieste). In the hall of Magazzino 28, in addition to the specific setup to accommodate 225 tables for delegates’ lunches, three additional meeting areas will be created to host the groups that will meet Pope Francis.

Technology

To guarantee audio and video connections, in addition to the technological equipment already present at the Generali Convention Center Trieste, an additional 200 meters of cables will be used. To complete the technical setups, two informative LED walls.

Simplicity

The spirit that animates the installations is marked by simplicity and minimalism, in harmony with the teaching of the Church. On stage, at the moment of his presence, for the Holy Father there will be only a white armchair and a microphone. The floral decorations are also very simple, strictly in the colors of the Vatican, with plants with yellow and white flowers. For the first time, the Generali Convention Center Trieste will see the arrival of a guest directly by helicopter in its spaces. The Holy Father, in turn on his first visit to Trieste, will land directly in Porto Vecchio, now Porto Vivo, in the spaces outside the Center.

On the final day of the Social Week, the Congress Center will be locked down from early morning for the arrival of the Pope. On Sunday 7 July at 8:15, in addition to the local authorities – the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga, the Mayor of Trieste Roberto Dipiazza, the Prefect of Trieste and Government Commissioner for Friuli Venezia Giulia Pietro Signoriello and the Bishop of Trieste Enrico Trevisi – there will also be Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, Monsignor Luigi Renna and the Group CEO of Assicurazioni Generali Philippe Donnet. The Pope will meet three groups in three spaces set up specifically for the occasion: the Ecumenical Representatives, those from the academic world, some migrants and disabled people. Then the Pope will depart for Piazza Unità. The mass will also be visible via streaming in the spaces of the Auditorium Generali in the Congress Center.
