BRINDISI – A weekend full of major sporting events in the city, including the Italian offshore sailing championship, the world motorboat championship and the youth basketball tournament.
Regarding sailing, the competition started on Wednesday and will end tomorrow. Cabin cruisers ranging from 9 to 14 meters in length are competing in the waters of Brindisi. The sailors in the race represent the best of the specialty, with arrivals from all over Italy. There are 46 boats registered and among the protagonists are many current Italian champions, confirming the importance of the event.
The three days of the F2 powerboat world championship will begin today. Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Slovak, Emirati, Portuguese, British and Italian pilots will compete in the inner harbor.

The tenth youth basketball tournament “Brindisi Porta del Salento” has also entered the heart of the matter. The teams are looking for the best placement in view of today’s final, which will be played at 6:00 pm at PalaZumbo.
Eighteen participating teams – five of which were female, coming from all over Puglia and Algeria (with two teams, one male and one female) – who this week invaded the parks and squares of Brindisi, Mesagne, Torre Santa Susanna and Fasano.
The boys of the Algerian team of Rouiba Club Basketball, guests of Asd Robur Brindisi, organizer of the event, alternate the competitions in the afternoon with cultural and recreational activities in the morning. In these days, in fact, they visited the monuments and suggestive views of the city. The Algerian consulate in Southern Italy will also participate in the awards ceremony.
The spirit that animates the tournament is to entertain the kids in friendship, without any prejudice for religion, political ideology and skin color, but also to remember many characters of the sports and social world of Brindisi who have brought prestige to the city and who are no longer with us today. In their memory, those who have distinguished themselves over the year in sports, social work and in the growth of the territory will be awarded. Among others, the deputy Mauro D’Attis, vice president of the parliamentary Anti-Mafia commission, and the Police Chief of Brindisi, Giampietro Lionetti, will be awarded.
