It was a passerby, around 9 this morning, who noticed the body in the water. Thus the alarm was triggered which brought the 118 personnel, the firefighters, the local police and the Carabinieri of the local station command to the shores of Lake Nemi.
The man’s body was near the shore, in a lake area along Via del Perino. The area was cordoned off by the police and was inspected for any traces. While waiting for the coroner, the car of the man, born in 1959 and resident in Velletri, was also located. It was inspected and inside the passenger compartment, among other things, the man’s cell phone was also found. An important element for the investigation. Up until that moment in fact, and naturally with the judgment suspended pending the results of the probable autopsy being examined yesterday by the Prosecutor’s Office, the most accredited hypothesis was that of a fatal illness that would have caused the man to fall into the water. At a first examination of the body in fact, there were no signs of any violence.
The discovery of personal effects in the car, however, opens the way to another hypothesis that is always being examined by the police: that of a possible voluntary act. In this case, it would be necessary to understand what the possible motivations for such an act could have been.
As the minutes passed and after the arrival of the coroner, the hypothesis of illness was strengthened, which could have struck the man, at first light of day – given that the death would have been set a few hours before the discovery – and would have made him fall into the water. Then the current of the lake would have moved the body a few meters. This is how the young man who was walking his dog, had the opportunity to notice the body about two meters from the shore.
The investigating authority, once having had the body recovered by a funeral agency, decided not to order an examination by the medical examiner and to entrust it to the family. The victim appears to be unmarried. The funeral will be scheduled in Velletri in the next few hours.
