MODENA, 27 JUNE – Sentenced to 21 years in prison for the voluntary homicide of his mother. This is what was established by the Assize Court of Modena against 50-year-old Carlo Evangelisti, in prison for the death of Milena Calanchi, 71, which occurred between 15 and 16 November 2021 in the home where they lived, in via Manzini. The prosecutor Lucia De Santis had asked for a life sentence for the defendant, underlining how the crime had taken place in a context of mistreatment within the home. The police had intervened several times in via Manzini, alerted by neighbors following the continuous and violent arguments between mother and son. The defendant’s lawyer, Roberto Ghini, had asked for his client to be acquitted of the crime of voluntary homicide and for the facts to be classified as manslaughter or, in extreme cases, unintentional homicide. In the courtroom, Evangelisti, pressed by the prosecutor’s questions, admitted to having argued with his elderly mother on the evening of November 15. Yet another argument that saw them sadly as protagonists and he had emphasized that, after receiving a slap from his mother, he had fallen on top of her, being drunk. “All the work done, the alternative reconstruction proposed also thanks to the precious collaboration of technical consultants will obviously be brought to the attention of the Court of Appeal”, underlined the lawyer Ghini at the end of the hearing.
