Terni, 27 June 2024 – The mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi continues to cause discussion: this time he stopped responding to some questions from Fratelli d’Italia, he made a barking sound to their address and left the City Council chamber. Before leaving, Bandecchi handed the paper he was reading to a councillor, saying “send them to … for me”. It is not the first time that Bandecchi has been the protagonist of sensational gestures in the Council. In April he had said that the city was starting to “bug him”. In January, however, controversy erupted when he claimed that «a normal man looks at a woman’s … and maybe even tries. Then if he succeeds… If he doesn’t succeed, he goes home instead”, speaking on a policy document on the fight against gender violence presented by minorities.
The representatives of FdI in the Citizen’s Assembly therefore claimed that the president of the City Council “expected to make the mayor respond even before the councilors (as the statute, the regulation and even common sense prescribe) could have explained their respective questions” . «Here – they say – is a mayor who is in a hurry, he has to leave (after all, his length of stay in the city is known, zero point, almost like AP’s votes in the European elections…). But he finds time to sound like a dog (he actually barks…) wanting to mimic the voices of the councilors who then protest: yet another offense to the people, to the role, to the popular mandate of which the councilors are an expression »
