“We thank once again the police forces who tirelessly carry out their task throughout the city. In fact, in these last hours, the Police Commissioner of the province of Barletta Andria Trani has issued some Prohibition Measures on Access to Urban Areas and some Oral Warnings against subjects responsible for committing crimes against property and against people in urban areas in the sixth province of Puglia.

Unfortunately, even in this case, the city of Andria was sadly a co-protagonist considering some crimes perpetrated, especially in the historic center, causing serious social alarm.

We believe it is essential and urgent to pay particular attention to the issue of safety in the city and we hope that the Municipal Administration can invest more resources in this direction by implementing a series of synergistic and coordinated interventions.

It is essential to implement a more effective control system at the gates of the Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL). Currently, our system only includes cameras at the entrance, thus allowing vehicles that enter before closing time to remain inside without being fined. This evidently creates a flaw in the control system, which not only reduces the effectiveness of measures aimed at limiting traffic in the historic center, but also frustrates efforts to preserve the tranquility and safety of our citizens. Therefore, it would be appropriate to install cameras also at the exits of the ZTL gates. A measure that would allow us to monitor and sanction those vehicles that remain within the ZTL beyond the permitted time, ensuring greater compliance with the rules and a fairer application of sanctions.

It is equally clear that many mopeds and cars enter the historic center by taking roads against traffic, taking advantage of the absence of control gates in some of these areas. This behavior is not only highly dangerous, but also contributes to an increase in incivility and disorder in our historic center. Not to mention the high danger coming from the improper use of scooters and electric bikes.

A constant presence of local police officers, especially in the evening hours, would be useful and functional for the safety of citizens and the many businesses who, despite their countless work efforts, sometimes have to suffer harassment from the hooligans on duty.

It is clear that a prestigious cultural and artistic programme, as well as a real tourist promotion, would give our historic center the dignity and prestige it deserves, becoming an attraction for families and many respectable citizens, rather than fertile ground for a meeting place for delinquents.

Hoping to have done a “good deed” towards the citizens, we quietly allow ourselves once again to offer a suggestion to the Municipal Administration, so that it can intervene in this direction to truly build a better city”.

This was declared in a note by the city commissioner of Action Antonio Nespoli and the city councilor also from Azione, Gianluca Grumo
