Even according to the judge for the preliminary hearing, it went as she always said Alfredo Zenucchi: him and his wife, Rossella Cominottithey wanted to end it together, they had chosen a hotel in Mattarana, a hamlet of Carrodano, in the La Spezia hinterland, to take their own lives.

But after killing his wife by cutting her throat and wrists with a razor, and after remaining near her body for two days, the husband had not done the same. On the morning of December 8, he had had breakfast, left the hotel and was stopped a short distance away by the police: “I wanted and had to kill myself too, I couldn’t do it,” were his words at the time of his arrest.

The gup is in court today Marinella Acerbi accepted the plea agreement agreed between the prosecutor Elisa Loris and Zenucchi’s lawyers, Alberto Rimmaudo And Riccardo Balatri: three years and six months of sentence. Because the investigations, initially opened for voluntary homicide, over time took the path of consenting homicide. The recognition of generic mitigating factors also weighs heavily: thus, from a base of 7 years and six months, we have fallen further.

Before reaching this conclusion, however, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Carabinieri naturally wanted to investigate everything possible. And, as expected, the analysis by the RIS of the letter found next to Rossella in those December days was decisive.

That document, according to the hyper-specialized nucleus of the Carabinieri, was really written by the woman: «Our Will: out of respect for the people who love us we would like our gesture to be disclosed as an accident (carbon monoxide poisoning), which the reasons are not disclosed and the cremation is carried out without a religious rite”.

The newsstand and debts

Rossella and Alfredo began to sink into the abyss not even a year before that tragic stay in Mattarana. They did it by burning a treasure of 70 thousand euros in a few months. That money on which they had staked everything to make a change in their lives has evaporated. Lost forever.

In January 2023, eleven months before he killed her in the room of the “Antica Luigina” hotel in Val di Vara, Zenucchi had obtained 70 thousand euros as your personal share of the sale of an inherited property.

Those who knew the man accused of voluntary manslaughter swear that the couple, with that money aside, could have lived with dignity. He is a truck driver, after years in the community to detox, she is a home hairdresser.

And instead the big gamble, with the purchase of the newsagent-stationery shop in Bonemerse, in the province of Cremona, where Rossella lived. A less tiring job for the man, and in a certain sense also for the woman who would no longer have to go from house to house.

Instead, that “weariness of living” always evoked by the killer after the crime seems to have been born right there, in that newsstand that represented redemption. And so the first 30 thousand euros went away just to buy the license from the previous owners. Then with the rent of the premises and the investments to launch the new business, the money that flew away was about 50 thousand.

In the end, in a few months, the couple married in the municipality were left with the 700 euros with which they made their last dramatic trip together; Before Lerici, Then Tellaro, so Mattarana.

The request to leave prison

As soon as the preliminary hearing judge’s decision arrived in the council chamber, Zenucchi’s lawyers asked for the release of the man who has been in prison since December 8. The judge reserved his decision, but he should rule soon. Having already spent more than six months in prison, it is very likely that the magistrate’s opinion will be favorable.
