Fiumicino, 26 June 2024 – Tomorrow, 27 June 2024, the Ship Captain (CP) Giuseppe Stranowill leave office of Head of the Maritime Department and Commander of the Port of Rome, after three years of Command, al Captain of the Vessel (CP) Silvestro Girgenti, coming from the secretariat of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi.

The handover, which will take place in the presence of the Vice Minister Rixi, the General Commander of the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard and the Maritime Director of Civitavecchia, will be an opportunity to share the intense balance of these three years, within the framework of the multiple professional dynamics that characterize the maritime sector of Rome for the duties that fall under the Coast Guard.

The Captain of the Vessel (CP) Silvestro Girgenti, as the last assignment carried out “Adviser to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Hon. Edaordo Rixi”. From October 1997 until 23 August 2004 he was assigned to the Port Authority of Porto Empedocle where he achieved excellent results in various positions, including Head of State Property/State Property Litigation Section, Environment and Head of Sea Defense Operational Unit. From 23 August 2004 to 6 September 2006 he was Head of the Maritime District and Commander of the Port of Marsala. From 7 September 2006 to 6 November 2011, assigned to the Port Authority of Trapani, he held various positions, including Section Head of State Property/State Property Litigation, Environment and Unit Head and Coordinator of the Judicial Police.

In 2009 Girgenti obtained the qualification for “Maritime Accident Investigator”, while in 2010 he obtained the valid NATO title of “Junior Staff Officer”. From 07 November 2011 to 26 August 2016 it was assigned to the Cabinet Office of the Minister of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea where it has achieved excellent results. Among the specific tasks carried out. by way of example: the participation of staff responsible for drafting the Ministerial Decree of 2 March 2012 and subsequent amendments. cd “Coast Saving Decree”; participation in specific ministerial study groups responsible for determining the environmental damage caused by maritime accidents involving the motor vessel Costa Concordia.

From 27 August 2016 to 3 August 2018, Captain Girgenti was Head of the Maritime Department and Commander of the Port Authority of Pesaro. From 6 August 2018 to 8 July 2019 – he fulfilled brilliant roles as Senior Officer assigned to the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. 10. From 08 July 2019 to 17 February 2020 he served at the General Command of the Port Authority Corps as an employee of the 1st Office of the 1st Department – Personal Employment, as well as Head of the Legal Affairs Office of the 2nd Services Department of the Institute. His professional profile it is made up diversified experience since 1997 in all institutional services carried out by the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard, with in-depth analysis of legal-environmental activities, as well as the guidance/coordination of local Judicial Police Sections/Nuclei; in relation to this last role, he contributed to successfully completing several complex maritime police operations also for the repression of environmental crimes.

Girgenti also played extraordinary teaching activity at universities and on the occasion of seminars, conferences and workshops, including those of national importance, official publications and for educational use, published press articles. There are also many other extra-professional activities associations and social commitment carried out.

Awards and honours

Captain Girgenti obtained 30 awards of merit between “Praise” and “Commendation” as well as some awards given in public forums, such as the Mayor of Fano and HE the Prefect of Pesaro and Urbino. He is invested with the Oorder of merit of the Italian Republic as an Officer and, among other honours, he was awarded the Silver medal for environmental merit he was born in Silver seal of the Minister of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea.
