Emergency microsimulation courses in the event of cardiac arrest and life-saving maneuvers. These are the ones that ASL Toscana Sud Est is carrying out in the district areas with an edition dedicated to administrative staff.

The training event, held by Dr. Lucia La Rosa, nurse, corporate training facilitator and scientific director of the project, started last May 29th at the Casa della Salute in Camucia di Cortona and was attended by 11 administrators.

The course has been active in the districts for 7 years now and is carried out in collaboration with DEU, the Emergency Department of the ASL TSE and this year, for the first time, non-healthcare personnel from the ASL Toscana Sud Est also took part. During the course, some soft skills were covered such as communication, active listening, empathy and the creation of team work where everyone plays their role based on their skills and personal characteristics. The theoretical part is followed by the simulation of a cardiac arrest in which the course participants put into practice the life-saving maneuvers using a half-body equipped with visual and sound feedback.

During the course in Camucia, participants were also shown how the Where ARE U app works which, in case of emergency, allows them to contact the police and emergency services based on the geolocation of the person to be helped in full compliance of privacy.

«The best performances come from continuous training – says La Dr. Manuela Giotti, director of the Valdichiana Aretina district area – A well-trained team is certainly an added value for reliability and precision. Security derives from all this: by doing so we pave the way to improving ourselves.”

«During the course – explains the Dr. Lucia La Rosa – we talk about the chain of survival, what to do when you see a person on the ground and if they don’t respond, immediately activate 118 and start compressions. We explain the movements to be performed and the correct position of the hands and information on the correct use of the AED, the defibrillator. Finally, the team is formed by identifying the roles of each one based on their strengths and weaknesses. Then we move on to the practical test on the mannequin. The last step is the debriefing during which we analyze the demonstration video and review which are the correct maneuvers to perform».

The courses continue in the next few weeks: after Camucia they were held in Grosseto with the local dentistry team and in the Grosseto district area, and on 17 June in Abbadia San Salvatore. More dates and locations coming soon.
