(Arv) Venice 26 June. 2024 – “This European gathering of Vespa enthusiasts aims to enhance the entire Veneto area, starting from Montegrotto. To the Mayor, to the President of the Vespa Club Europa Bart Bergans and to all the Vespa Clubs that successfully supported the candidacy of this spa resort, Le Vespe Padane of Montegrotto Terme and those of Este, Monselice, Roncajette, Due Carrare, Occhiobello, Vespe del Bosco di Chioggia, Arzignano, Rossano Veneto, Resana, Montebelluna, Rovigo, Rosolina, Venice and Portogruaro, my thanks go out for being able to team up together, which is not easy in the Veneto of bell towers and for giving a wonderful lesson, demonstrating that when you are united you can achieve incredible results: I am sure that the passion for the Vespa was much stronger than small parochialisms”. With these words, the President of the Veneto Regional Council Roberto Ciambetti introduced, at Palazzo Ferro-Fini, the press conference presenting “European Vespisti Week 2024”, the European gathering of Vespas and Vespa enthusiasts which will be held in Montegrotto Terme from 4 to 7 July 2024. “They told me that between 8 and 12 thousand were estimated to be present from at least thirty foreign countries: a memorable success for a cult object, the Vespa, which represented, with over twenty million units sold, one of the greatest successes in the history of twentieth-century design as well as a functional means of transport at low costs. The Vespa was the symbol of the new Italy after the Second World War, it was the first of a series of objects destined to change the history not only of design: think of the Lettera 22 by Olivetti, the Fiat 500, household appliances in the 1960s by Brionvega and so on, all cult objects that are beautiful to look at, extraordinarily functional and useful, and not by chance ended up in major contemporary art museums such as the MoMA in New York. Quality, functionality, beauty: Made in Italy was born around these characteristics and it is no coincidence that the Vespa is still a symbol of excellence today. We have a great tradition on two wheels, on motorbikes and let’s not forget that Piaggio, which was capable of creating two myths such as the Vespa and then the Ape, is today active on the market with the Aprilia and Moto Guzzi brands, as well as holding historic brands such as Laverda and Gilera. Indeed, Aprilia is successful and competitive on a global level together with Ducati: we are talking about the best symbols of world motorcycling, best because they have a great history behind them at the service of the user and represent a real culture of motorcycling. As an advertisement from the Seventies said, “With Vespa you can”! And with a Vespa you can also experience an exceptional event like the one in Montegrotto”, concluded President Ciambetti.
