The Cozza Selvaggia conquers Marina di Ravenna over the weekend

The collection of the Wild Mussels from Marina di Ravenna it started off auspiciously with the dives of the underwater divers of the two local fishing cooperatives and the quality is excellent. In the midst of the mussel harvest, which grows spontaneously in the open sea at the base of the platforms in the Adriatic, comes the Wild Mussel Festival in Marina di Ravenna that opens Friday 28 June and continues Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June in Molo Dalmaziain the Fishing Basin, with the aim of promoting this excellent local product and supporting the cozzari who continue to passionately practice this tough sea profession.

There will also be a preview on June 27th at Bagno Finisterre with the inaugural dinner on the beach and a menu based on mussels. The Cozza Selvaggia from Marina di Ravenna is one of the most prized in Italy. The supply chain of this identifying product of our sea is important for economic, tourist, gastronomic and environmental purposes. The festival is held with the collaboration of the cozzari cooperatives that collect the mussels and the local restaurants – from the Ravenna beaches to the city of Ravenna – which include the Wild Mussels of Marina di Ravenna in their menus. Even large retailers and various fishmongers join the project, making the Wild Mussels of Marina di Ravenna available on their fish counters.

The center of the event in the three days of the festival is represented by the area of ​​the fishing basin – fra Molo Dalmazia and the former Fish Market – in Marina di Ravenna where meetings and show cooking will be held and where some stands will offer Wild Mussels to the public. The stands will be managed by: Aurora Osteria & Cultura; L’Acciuga Osteria; Finisterre Beach Restaurant; Food Truck Savut; Fishermen from Marina di Ravenna; Ravenna Covered Market Restaurant.

The festival also hosts a valuable fundraising initiative for charitable purposes in memory of Loris Barberini, a true fisherman-cozzaro from Marina di Ravenna. The funds raised by family and friends will be used to purchase a deshiner which will be placed in the fish market area.

Aperitif in the new “Finisterre Beach- La Gastronomia” premises and dinner at the “Finisterre Beach-Ristorante”. In an environment that has doubled the space, a menu based on mussels is served at the price of 35 euros all included. Presentation of the book “Io Cucino La Selvaggia di Marina di Ravenna”, the new book of 14 recipes printed on the occasion of the 11th edition of the Mussel Festival with the collaboration of the Eni Enrico Mattei Foundation (FEEM). A true source of precious advice with recipes from chefs, fishermen and seafood enthusiasts. Those present are given the book as a gift and served a taste of mussels.

Saturday 29 June. 10 am – Eni Pier – SEA TRIP. Excursion with boats, in collaboration with Eni. Guided tour with approach to a platform and demonstration of mussel harvesting with underwater fishermen. A program full of emotions, with the flavor of mussels, where you can also witness the release into the sea of ​​some specimens of sea turtles, after the care received by Cestha.

6.30 pm – Fish Market Atrium – FROM THE MARKET TO THE TABLE THE SEA IS INVOLVED. How does the mussel harvest look like this year? The protagonists, the legendary cozzari, or the underwater fishermen of the La Romagnola and Nuovo Conisub Cooperatives of Marina di Ravenna, tell us about it.

This is followed by a tasting of mussels prepared by chef Matteo Salbaroli of the L’Acciuga Osteria restaurant.
