COSENZA «It is with great disappointment and profound bitterness that we learn, through the press, of our expulsion from the Democratic Party (read the news). It is also impressive to note that the first official act of the ruling class which received fewer votes in the European elections than in all the other regions of the country was to throw out those who had denounced its limits, the absence of political vision and the undemocratic practices». Thus begins the note signed by Francesco Graziadio, Gianfranco Tinto and Aldo Trecroci and issued 24 hours after their cancellation from the party membership decided by the Guarantee commission of the Cosenza PD.
The three speak of «an incomprehensible decision taken by appealing to a statute which, in our latitudes, is disregarded on a daily basis by those who should be its guardians. The very meeting of the supervisory body that voted against us does not seem very legitimate to us. On Monday morning the provincial president of the Democratic Party, Maria Locanto, having heard the regional secretary, Nicola Irto, had invited Salvatore Perugini to suspend the activities of the commission he directed after the resignation of three of the nine members that constituted it, in order to convene the provincial assembly and proceed with a democratic integration of the body. In response, Perugini called together the surviving members to put the sentence against us to the vote. Who knows what the statute prescribes, in cases like this, but we believe that there are all the elements to ask that Salvatore Perugini be removed from office. We also regret boring our five readers with these technical notes, because the issue, in our opinion, is instead purely political”.
«In Cosenza the Democratic Party gets fewer votes than the 5S»

It is no coincidence in Italy the Democratic Party is the locomotive that drives the reformist front while in Cosenza it receives fewer votes than the M5S and remains ahead of Avs by a handful of votes. It will not have escaped the notice of the most attentive political analysts that the candidate of the entire Magic Circle of the Cosenza Democratic Party, Pina Picierno, took just over half of the votes of Maria Pia Funaro in Avs in the city. But Maria Pia talks to citizens and comrades every day, they haven’t done so for years».
And again: «It is also unfortunate that Salvatore Perugini was so prompt in responding to the request for expulsion inspired by Nicola Adamo, once the undisputed and feared lord of the Democratic Party, now frightened even by three simple city councilors, who had limited themselves to asking to keep the doors of the Federation open to talk about politics. Never! By talking about politics, one risks filling the party with free and thinking comrades… Better to keep them outside, their heads free and thinking, better to remain four in the surrounded fort”.
“We will appeal”
Then the future prospects: «We, however, are not giving up. These old-Stalinist measures do not scare us. Indeed, in Cosenza they make CVs. The contempt of those who destroyed the Democratic Party in the city and province shines like a medal on our chest and we have already been inundated with testimonies of affection and solidarity from many citizens and left-wing activists. We will appeal. At regional bodies and, if necessary, at national ones. Because the Democratic Party is made up of comrades who engage in politics for the interests of the community, not of those who see it as a club of friends”, they conclude.
