Paolo Agostinacchio, former mayor of Foggia, dies: he fell ill while he was in his study

A serious loss in the local politics of Foggia. He died at 86 years old Paolo Agostinacchio, historic exponent of the right, former mayor of Foggia and deputy. He had first served in the Social Movement and then in the National Alliance. Agostinacchio died suddenly on the morning of June 26th while he was at work in his studio in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

He was a municipal councilor and then mayor of Foggia from 1995 to 2004. Elected deputy in 1983, 1992 and 1994, he remained in office until 1996. During his first term as mayor he found himself having to deal with the collapse of the building in Viale Giotto, the biggest post-war tragedy that affected the city of Foggia with 67 deaths.

“I express my condolences in a sad and sorrowful way, first from a human and personal point of view and then also from a political point of view – writes the FdI deputy Giandonato La Salandra – A true symbol of the right, an illustrious exponent of the then Italian Social Movement but, I would say, of serious and responsible politics. I have always considered him my mentor.” Condolences also from Forza Italia: “His loss is a great loss for the cultural heritage of the center-right of our Region and a great human loss – adds the regional commissioner Mauro D’Attis – never lacked his support until the last administrative competitions in Foggia. We are close to his family, his loved ones and the entire community of Capitanata who mourns his loss with us.”
