Sotto l’Angelo di Castello: dance music show – EZ Rome

Castel Sant’Angelo is preparing to welcome the fourth edition of the exhibition “Under the Angel of Castello: dance music show”, an event that will be held from 3 July to 26 September 2024. Promoted by the General Director of Museums, Massimo Osanna, and curated by Anna Selvi, the event offers a series of shows ranging from dance, music and theatre, involving internationally renowned artists. The event is part of the program to valorise the monument, offering entertainment experiences that stimulate reflection and cross unusual, imaginative, social and multimedia territories.

High cultural level programming

“Once again, Castel Sant’Angelo presents itself as a point of reference in the summer programming that Rome offers to citizens and visitors”, comments the General Director of Museums, Massimo Osanna. The exhibition aims to make museums places of experimentation, enrichment and dialogue for all types of public. The program opens on July 3 with Armando Punzo’s Compagnia della Fortezza – Carte Blanche, which returns to Rome after almost 10 years. The director, known for his thirty-year activity inside the Volterra prison, will present “Naturae”, a site-specific project with original music by Andreino Salvadori, the result of a work cycle lasting 8 years.

On July 10, on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Emperor Hadrian, Roberto Latini will be the voice of Hadrian and other poets in “Smarrite e soave. Adriano poet among poets”, accompanied by the music of Gianluca Misiti performed live by Luisiana Lorusso on violin and Claudia Della Gatta on cello. On July 18th it will be the turn of Alessandro Quarta, world-famous Italian multi-instrumentalist violinist and composer, who will present the “No Limits Quintet” project together with Giuseppe Magagnino, Franco Chirivì, Michele Colaci and Cristian Martina.

Family shows and traveling performances

The event does not forget families, with events also designed for the little ones. On July 24, “Hamelin”, a theatrical work by Tonio De Nitto inspired by the Pied Piper by the Brothers Grimm, will be particularly recommended for children aged 5 and up. The show won the 2023 Eolo Award as best show dedicated to children and teenagers. On August 20th, Cettina Donato will present “One Piano Show”, a performance that highlights the talent of the musician, who has been included several times in the ranking of the best Italian arrangers by the Jazzit Awards.

The closing of the event is entrusted to the Nanou Group, which on 24, 25 and 26 September will offer the public of Castel Sant’Angelo the traveling performance “Paradiso”. With choreography by Marco Valerio Amico and Rhuena Bracci, the group collaborates with the visual artist Alfredo Pirri and the musician Bruno Dorella, creating a common language between body, sound and image.

Music, theater and dance: a rich and varied programme

On August 27, Mimmo Cuticchio will bring to the stage “The Iliad or the Ransom of Priam”, an example of the Puppet Opera recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of humanity. The music was specially written by Giacomo Cuticchio, and the Figli d’Arte company presents the masterpieces of the Cuticchio family. On September 5, Antonio Lizana will perform as a quintet with his latest album “Vishuddha”, a mix of flamenco and jazz that expresses the artist’s deepest truth.

On 13 September, in the Library Hall, “Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” will be presented, directed by Fabio Cherstich and choreographed by Philippe Kratz, a project of the National Choreographic Center/Aterballetto. The musical choice falls on one of the most extraordinary pieces by Claudio Monteverdi, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of its first performance. On September 19, Ornithology Productions will present “Notes on the Melody of Things,” a project that combines alto sax, cello and real-time electronics.

The exhibition will conclude with the traveling performance “Paradiso” by the Nanou Group, which will offer a unique experience among the museum rooms of Castel Sant’Angelo, where body, sound and image merge in a common language.
