Abruzzo, a land of breathtaking landscapes that extend from the snow-capped mountain peaks to the warm beaches of the Adriatic Sea, is now the protagonist of a new culinary initiative aimed at promoting tourism through the authentic flavors of the region.

“Abruzzo in a sandwich” is the project launched by CalascinoCafè in Calascioa small jewel set in the province of L’Aquila, which saw the collaboration of three renowned starred chefs from Abruzzo.

The presentation of the three variants of gourmet sandwiches was held yesterday evening at the organizing venue, attracting the attention of customers with a tasting that was able to highlight the excellence and variety of typical local products. Each sandwich represents a specification geographical area of ​​Abruzzo: mountains, countryside and sea, thus offering visitors and gastronomy enthusiasts a real sensorial journey through the region.

The three gourmet sandwiches to try

The first of the three culinary masterpieces was created by William Zonfa, chef of the Palazzo Micheletti restaurant in L’Aquila. His “Mountain Sandwich” expertly combines grilled pork belly with caramelized onion and a surprising mayonnaise with L’Aquila DOP saffron. This creation not only pays homage to the excellent products of the mountain area, but also introduces a contemporary touch to the classic porchetta sandwich thanks to the use of saffron.

from the starred Ristorante La Bandiera in Civitella Casanova (Pescara), brings to the table the “Panino Campagna”. A composition that celebrates the genuine flavours of the Abruzzo land through the use of various seeds, organic chicken salad enriched with horseradish sauce and both cooked and raw vegetables. A perfect balance between taste and freshness that encapsulates the essence of the region’s rural life.

Nicola Fossaceca, chef of the Al Metrò restaurant in San Salvo (Chieti), completes the triptych with his “Panino Mare”. This culinary proposal brings maritime flavors to high altitudes thanks to the innovative use of roasted octopus accompanied by grilled courgettes and battered fried flowers on rustic bread. There garlic yogurt sauce of Sulmona adds a further gustatory layer to this homage to the Abruzzo coast.
