Surveillance and animal welfare checks. Veterinarians on the field for the health of the Palio

The Palio is approaching and so too does the commitment of the veterinarians of the Prevention Department of the South East Tuscany ASL in health surveillance checks and compliance with the rules on animal welfare of the horses used in the event. The work of the ASL professionals actually began last March with the pre-visits of the horses for entry into the 2024 equine protocol and continued with the work and training races. On 22 and 23 June at the Il Ceppo clinic in Monteriggioni, a special municipal veterinary commission – with Mario Valensin and Anna Carone – carried out tests to verify the compliance with the optimal biometric parameters for running the Palio of the horses that arrived here after the route of selection. At the same time, ASL veterinarians carried out documentary checks on the identity of the equids and the health requirements required by law. The veterinary service will also be busy in the days preceding the Palio, starting from tomorrow to verify compliance with the health regulations and the protocol of the event for the protection of animal welfare during the regulated tests, the tests following the Treaty, historical procession and Career.
