*The University of Sassari celebrates Research Doctorate Day*

*SASSARI.* Thursday 27 June, starting from 10.00, the Aula Magna
of the University of Sassari will host the celebration of
PhD Day 2024.
This is the inauguration of the new Academic Year of Doctorates
research, an event that sums up the one just concluded and announces
forecasts for the new year. The ceremony will open with greetings
of the Magnificent Rector Gavino Mariotti, provides for the delivery of the parchments
to 40 PhDs and awards to the authors of the best theses
Doctorate of the 34th, 35th and 36th cycle: for the scientific area, I am Giuseppe
Garroni of the Doctoral Course in Biomedical Sciences and for the area
humanities *Cinzia Roggio* of the PhD course in
Archaeology, History and Human Sciences
This year the event will be enriched by the presence of Gian
Francesco Giudice, Director of the Department of Theoretical Physics at CERN
Ginevra, who will hold a Lectio Magistralis entitled “The Universe
quantum”.
Born in Padua in 1961, he graduated from the University of Padua and has
obtained his doctorate in Theoretical Physics at SISSA in Trieste. He has been
Research Associate at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory at
Chicago, Research Fellow at the University of Texas in the award group
Nobel Prof. Steven Weinberg, worked at the National Institute of Physics
Nuclear (INFN) and then moved to CERN in Geneva in 1993. He has been
Jacques Solvay Chair at the Solvay Institute in Brussels, Distinguished
Visiting Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute in Canada, Chandrasekhar
Lecturer at the Tata Institute in India, Sackler Distinguished Lecturer
at Tel Aviv University and Schrödinger Guest Professor at the University of
Vienna.
He has always been very active in scientific dissemination, while as far as
concerns research activities, boasts over 200 scientific publications
on the topic of formulating new theories of elementary particles and
their applications to the history of the early universe. He was part of it
of scientific committees on large particle colliders around the world
world and on the planning of future accelerators.
