There are now just a few days left until the long-awaited second Sardinian folk festival in Quartu Sant’Elena, where the streets of the historic center are ready to welcome colours, scents and melodies that recall cultures and traditions from every corner of Sardinia.

Sunday 30 June will indeed take place “Festive Day”event organized by the Pro loco Quartu Sant’Elena Tourist Association with the patronage and contribution of the Sardinia Region and the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena.

After the first edition last year which was a great success, the members of the Pro loco, led by the president Stefano Lai, have decided to move the event to a period of the year which is not yet excessively hot, and to bring together for the first time another event, the pig festival.

A rich day dedicated to good folklore food therefore, which will delight the palates of the many visitors and tourists, offering them a broad view of the different traditions of the Island, brought together in a riot of colours, joy and celebration.

“The objective of the event is precisely to bring Sardinian realities together in Quartu, keeping immortal cultures alive over time that can be known and remembered in all their charm – says the president of Pro loco, Stefano Lai, to Sardegna Live –. The event required two months of preparation, everyone worked hard to make the day a success which we hope will be unforgettable for all those present, in the name of cultural enrichment, but also fun and carefree at the same time”.

THE PROGRAM

Sunday 30 June, at 10.30 am the roasters will begin cooking the meat; there will be several stands of artisans and hobbyists in Piazza Sant’Elena. The tasting will follow with dedicated menus and you will be able to taste some delicacies while savoring the atmosphere of waiting and preparation for the main dish of the day, the event.

This year, folk groups from 25 municipalities will participateCagliari, Settimo San Pietro, Monastir, Maracalagonis, Villasor, Elmas, Dolianova, Assemini, Sinnai, Domusnovas, Narcao, Nuoro, Musei, Gonnesa, Orroli, Guspini, San Nicolò d’Arcidano, Uras, Flumentepido, Dairo, Ilbono, Arzana , Simaxis and Serrenti.

The parade will take place at 8.30pm again in Piazza Sant’Elena, where the churchyard of the basilica will act as a stage.

There will be the traditional masks Gruppo Boes and Merdulas from Ottana, Mamutzones Antigos from Samugheo, Bois Fui Janna Morti from Escalaplano.

There will be no shortage of music, through the notes of Michele Deiana, from Quartu Sant’Elena, at the launeddas, Costantino Lai, from Sorgono; he will accompany the musical evening of the “Tenore su Connottu” association from Fonni.

The event will be accompanied and enriched by Giuliano Marongiu’s commentary and broadcast live on all Sardegna Live web platforms.
