Water crisis, Basilicata in the grip of drought

POTENZA – It will be a decidedly complicated summer on the water front in Basilicata. The continuing drought, interrupted by some rain in the last few hours which certainly cannot represent the solution to the problem, risks turning into a real emergency. The Lucanian reservoirs are increasingly below the threshold level and many mayors, following the indications received from Acquedotto Lucano which has prepared a rationalization plan for the use of the water resource, have already signed ordinances which provide for the ban, until next September 30th, to use public water for uses other than drinking, domestic and sanitary purposes. The availability of water in the main Lucanian dams to date is approximately 200 million cubic meters less than in the same period of 2023

. Unfortunately, the weather forecasts do not suggest anything good: the brief unstable and disturbed phase that has affected Basilicata in the last few hours is destined to end quickly, once again leaving room for another long period of heat and drought. A situation that will exacerbate a critical issue on the water front that is already evident. From Cia farmers and Coldiretti the request to the Region: a table immediately to manage the emergency.
