REGGIO EMILIA – The Police, coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, has been carrying out 38 precautionary measures since dawn this morning, 20 in prison, 16 under house arrest and 2 with mandatory signatures, for drug trafficking. Over 130 agents involved. The charges are also of possession of common firearms, including clandestine ones, and, for one suspect, of aiding and abetting illegal immigration. The ‘Last’ operation originated from checks in the abandoned area of the former Reggiane which, until the eviction which took place in September 2021, represented the epicenter of drug dealing in the city, as emerged from other previous investigations by the Police Headquarters. During the operation, which began in August 2021, the Police made 22 red-handed arrests, seizing over 11 kilos of narcotics, especially cocaine, 41 thousand euros in cash, four common firearms, two of which with the serial number abraded, and the running a public pizzeria in the city where the drug dealing activity was documented. The operation made it possible to document the links between the Reggio Emilia drug dealer network and the Abbinante clan of the Camorra which could count on a logistical base for the storage of drugs and the transit of fugitives in a municipality in the ceramic district. Thanks to the wiretaps, the role of one of the drug dealers in the illegal immigration of Nigerians through Niger and Libya was also documented.
