The orientation workshops aimed at children in the second year of secondary school, held at ISIS Bernocchi in Legnano this June, gave excellent results.

Success for the orientation workshops of Isis Bernocchi

Forty-five students joined and completed the courses, coming from various institutions in the area – the Dante Alighieri, Bonvesin de la Riva, Giosué Carducci and Franco Tosi schools of Legnano, the Dante Alighieri school of Cerro Maggiore, the Papa school Giovanni XXIII of Villa Cortese and the Leonardo da Vinci of Nerviano.

These co-curricular workshops are among the activities financed with the PNRR aimed at combating school dropout. The idea of organizing courses aimed at students from other schools was born within a working group organized by the Municipality of Legnano, for the planning of actions aimed at this purpose.

There were three paths from which the students could choose

In the Mechanics course, led by professors Antonio Lamattina and Nicola Puma, the children carried out various activities in the technological laboratory, where they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the measuring instruments used in the workshops, in the drawing laboratory, where they enjoyed using
the CAD software, and in the workshop of the Medea branch office, where they were able to observe the functioning of the motor vehicle engines. On the last day they also had the opportunity to see the CNC machine tools at work.

As part of the Fashion course, taught by teachers Nadia De Rossi and Cinzia Oliva, starting from a paper pattern provided by the teachers the students sewed shorts in non-woven fabric and created the decorative elements.

The works created by the boys

Finally, in the Electronics and Electrical Engineering laboratory, led by professors Elisa Albano and Francesco Lauricella, the kids created an alarm circuit with a siren and one with an LED flasher with transistors. Playful activities were also proposed, such as a treasure hunt: the kids challenged each other to trace the correct route on a map with a joystick, signaled by the switching on of LED lights thanks to the use of the electronic boards of the Arduino platform.

The teachers said they were very satisfied with the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the students, testifying to the usefulness of these initiatives to excite the students and support them in an informed choice of higher education.
