Modena among the 179 “cycling municipalities” of FIAB – SulPanaro

MODENA – For the sixth consecutive year, Modena is included among the Cycling Municipalities in the special ranking of Fiab, the Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation, which this year has awarded 179 yellow flags to as many “bicycle-friendly” cities. Modena is entitled to three “bike smiles”, compared to a maximum of five, especially for activities related to the governance of sustainable mobility, the moderation of speed and traffic (with Zone 30, for example) and urban cycle paths: as many as 247 kilometres, with around twenty completed in recent years and several construction sites underway, such as that of the new section of the Diagonal towards Cognento.

The certificate of recognition, signed by the national president of Fiab Alessandro Tursi, underlines in the motivation “the commitment to the promotion and creation of infrastructures and policies in favor of cycling” over the last year.

Born with the aim of stimulating local administrations in the development of cycling mobility policies, the initiative also represents an opportunity to develop specific training activities and provide suggestions to local authorities to improve, year after year, the level of cycling already achieved making one’s territory suitable and increasingly attractive to be experienced and visited by bicycle.

The Fiab-ComuniCiclabili initiative is sponsored by: Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Ecf-European Cyclists’ Federation, Anci-National Association of Italian Municipalities, Inu-National Institute of Urban Planning, Association of Municipalities Virtuosi, Ali-Italian Local Autonomies, City on Bike, World Cycling Alliance and WWF. The eighth edition of the event, for the awarding of the yellow cycling flags for 2025, will start after the summer.
