Pisa, 25 June 2024 – THEL centre-right advancealbeit in small steps, in the province of Pisa. If the Democratic Party achieves successes in the main municipalities, it must in fact beware of the coalition led by Brothers of Italy which makes the provincial map a little bluer with the successes of two weeks ago in Castelfranco di Sotto (mayor Fabio Mini), Santa Croce sull’Arno (mayor Roberto Giannoni), Terricciola (mayor Matteo Arcenni), Casciana Terme Lari (mayor Paolo Mori) and Castelnuovo Val di Cecina (which confirmed Alberto Ferrini for the fourth consecutive mandate) and yesterday’s in Ponsacco (the Northern League member Gabriele Gasperini) which brings the municipalities governed by Fdi, Forza Italia, Lega and allied civic lists to eight with Pisa (Michele Conti) and Santa Maria a Monte (Manuela Del Grande).

There are instead six municipalities administered by civismo tout cour: Riparbella (Salvatore Neri), Chianni (Giacomo Tarrini), Montecatini Val di Cecina (Francesco Auriemma), Lajatico (Fabio Tedeschi), Guardistallo (Sandro Ceccarelli) and Capannoli (Arianna Cecchini, civic but only because it was disavowed in the candidacy by the provincial Democratic Party).

The other 23 remain in the hands of the Democratic Party and its allies. With the confirmations arriving yesterday Pontedera (Matteo Franconi) and San Miniato (Simone Giglioli), the municipalities of Calci (Massimiliano Ghimenti), Calcinaia (Cristiano Alderigi), Casale (Claudia Manzi), Crespina Lorenzana (David Bacci), Fauglia (Alberto Lenzi) also remain “red” , Montescudaio (Loris Caprai), Monteverdi (Francesco Govi), Montopoli (Linda Vanni), Palaia (Marica Guerrini), Peccioli (Renzo Macelloni), Pomarance (Graziano Pacini), San Giuliano Terme (Matteo Cecchelli), Vicopisano (Matteo Ferrucci) and Volterra (Giacomo Santi).

The large advantage, however, must not be deceiving because in some cases the success (as in Volterra) really came by a handful of votes with communities split in two and because, in the cases of Capannoli, Ponsacco and Casciana Terme Lari, the defeat is the result of responses at the polls that were anything but expected in the House of Dems. With a distance between internal frictions, secretarial dicktat and various currents compared to the real communities of reference made evident precisely by the vote.

In Valdera there is the most sensational political suicide of the Democratic Party: in Capannoli, let us remember, the vast majority of voters chose the outgoing mayor (and her team) badly torpedoed by the provincial leaders of the party, but also in Casciana Terme Lari the internal divisions on the center-left they paved the way for the desire for change led by the journalist Paolo Mori, civic candidate of a coalition also supported by Fdi, Forza Italia and Lega.

Last but not least, the case Ponsacco: Lupi manages to do even worse than in the first round, when he was ten points ahead of his Northern League opponent. He receives 225 personal votes less than 15 days ago and is outclassed by the center-right who, after the polls closed, distanced him by more than 11 points. A debacle without appeal.
