The Sanremo municipal elections have ended and while the victory of Alessandro Mager is being celebrated in Via Roma, at the point of the centre-right candidate, the engineer Gianni Rolandothe first assessments are made after the electoral defeat.

9,977 votes equal to 51.18% allowed Mager to become the new mayor of Sanremo, getting the better of his opponent, who obtained 9,517 votes, equivalent to 48.82%.

In the first round, Gianni Rolando had won over his opponents, detaching Mager, who came second, by about ten percentage points. L’turnout to the polls in this second round of municipal elections it was from 43.48%significantly lower than the 55.31% recorded in the first round.

“I said that I would end my career as an engineer to put my heart and soul into this mission, to become mayor of Sanremo, moreover at a moment that I consider very important for the city”, begins Rolando. “Now I have to review everything and it is clear that my life will not be in politics. I will move forward with my family and with my work, perhaps reduced to this point, also because I am starting to feel like spending the last years of my life working a little less.”

Rolando then focuses on Mager’s victory and the support given to the latter by the former centre-left mayoral candidate Fulvio Fellegara.

“What happened is that the citizens voted partly for Mager and partly for Fellegara. Two candidates with completely different ideas eventually got together and this agreement ultimately rewarded them. I consider this a political defeat, because the citizens voted for two candidates with completely contrasting ideas, but that’s how it went, there’s no point in continuing to dredge up things that are now in the past”, continues Rolando. “From this experience, I will take with me the people who gave everything with me. New friends gained along this journey. Friendship is the most important thing in life. Politics is made up of friends, acquaintances and enemies. When you acquire real friends it’s the most important thing.”

Lastly, Rolando made it known that he did not intend to join the city council. “It doesn’t make much sense for me, especially at my age, to go and sit on the city council. I think it is more right to leave the place to someone younger, who I don’t know who he might be at this moment, who carries forward his political line”, he concludes.
