Sara Funaro in Piazza della Signoria
That’s what he says Sara Funaro from the arengario of Palazzo Vecchio, in Piazza della Signoria, where the first greetings to the city of the new mayor of Florence are taking place.
Sara Funaro comes out from one of the doors that overlooks the Arengario. Dario Nardella accompanied her. The now former mayor and now European parliamentarian leaves the baton after two legislatures. There is a big hug between the two and a selfie.
Funaro thanks his family: his brother, “the parents who have always believed in me and have always been by my side. My partner Paolo who is the most patient person ever. The grandparents who are no longer here and the cousins who are no longer here more”, including Lorenzo ‘Mao’ Bargellinihistoric leader of the Housing Movement who passed away seven years ago.
As the first female mayor of Florence, she also addresses a thought “to all women, young and old. If today, by making my dream come true, I can say that I am the first mayor, every woman with determination, strength and passion can make her dream come true. Never stop in front of your dreams , because it’s the most important thing there is.”
