The mayor of Martignano Luigino Sergio introduced the evening as follows: “I thank the Lecce club, from the president to the management, and the Tuscan architect, a central element. I thank those who are setting up the new headquarters of the Lecce Club named after Saverio Sticchi Damiani. I am proud that Lecce has invested here. Many years ago we began to build relationships with councilor Alfarano, at the time councilor of the municipality of Lecce. Drop by drop we are here. Lecce chose Martignano after evaluating all the options and found the suitable urban planning options in Martignano. All this has allowed this important initiative while the country is in crisis.”

The outgoing mayor Luciano Aprile he added: “I thank US Lecce. Everyone played an important role. We are a good team and in this regard I want to say that we worked cordially. We started many years ago and it took us eight years to reach the goal. We worked to bring Lecce to Martignano, in the last period things have accelerated and I thank the US Lecce team. This happened when we went to Bari to see the project. At a certain point, the CEO Mencucci told me ‘fire the dust’, to immediately convene the Board of Directors. I received a call while the Board of Directors was on speakerphone and they told me ‘Mayor, we put in a little money to buy the land’. I added by saying ‘oh well the mayor will put the rest’, knowing that shortly thereafter I wouldn’t be one anymore. I thank US Lecce and the technicians who were close to us, the Municipality managers who worked until night”.
The delegate for relations with US Lecce Enzo Rosato he then concluded: “Martignano is a Serie A municipality. I thank Lecce for believing in the Municipality of Martignano and for having implemented the project in our country. This gives prestige to Lecce and Martignano. There will be benefits for our community, represented at a national level. New economic activities will be born and Martignano will grow.
