the agreement will be signed on Liscione

MOLISE. On June 26th, at the reservoir of Lake Liscione, the collaboration agreement will be signed between the Fire Brigade of Campobasso and ARPA Molise aimed at guaranteeing the continuation and implementation of environmental monitoring of the waters of Liscione .

The collaboration agreement provides for the execution, with the personnel of the two bodies, of lake water sampling activities through the use of a fire brigade vessel. and the technical instrumentation of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection.

On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, sampling will be carried out, conducted in compliance with the provisions of the third part of Legislative Decree 152/2006 “Consolidated Environmental Law”, essentially consisting of sampling and data acquisition with a multiparametric probe on the column ‘waterfall.

The samples taken will be subjected to analytical processing at the ARPA Molise laboratories to determine the content of the basic parameters, metals, organic pollutants, as well as biological analyzes aimed at evaluating the community of “phytoplankton” present in lake waters. The environmental monitoring actions will also allow us to verify the consistency of any algal blooms and evaluate their level of toxicity.

On the first day of sampling, experimental monitoring will be activated consisting of the sampling of a portion of water, which will be sent to the ARPA Lazio laboratories for the determination of PFAS – perfluoroalkyl substances – and sampling will be carried out with a “manta net” to evaluate the microplastics dispersed in lake waters.

In this regard, given that microplastics and perfluoroalkyl substances constitute the so-called emerging pollutants and that scientific literature qualifies them as ubiquitous, ARPA Molise has intended to launch, starting from the current year, on an experimental basis, an initial activity of sampling which will consist of samples to evaluate the presence of microplastics and the concentration of PFAS, not only in Lake Liscione, but also at the mouths of the Biferno and Trigno Rivers.

The experimentation also involves the search for PFAS in the waters of the Volturno River in the Venafro Plain, as well as in n. 6 samples of groundwater taken from wells located in the Piana di Venafro (n. 3 wells), Piana di Bojano (n. 1 well), Piana del Basso Biferno (n. 1 well) and Piana del Basso Trigno (n. 1 well ). PFAS will also be searched for in n. 3 samples of water intended for human consumption taken from public fountains in Campobasso, Isernia and Termoli respectively.
