Massimo Coda is returning from an impressive season with the Cremonese shirt, in which he scored 18 goals between the championship, Italian Cup and Playoffs. Despite these excellent performances, the grey-red club did not exercise the right of redemption and Coda returned to Genoa. However, the 35-year-old striker is unlikely to remain in Liguria next season.
Cremonese, intending to reopen negotiations with Genoa to bring Coda back into their ranks, is not the only team interested. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, at least seven Serie B clubs are closely following the attacker’s situation. Among these, Palermo seems to be the favourite, but Modena, Sassuolo, Bari, Salernitana and Pisa are also in the running.
An interesting detail concerns Filippo Inzaghi, who coached Coda in Benevento in the 2019-2020 season. Under Inzaghi’s guidance, Coda scored 7 goals, a lower number than in the last four seasons, during which he won the top scorer rankings twice and contributed to the promotions of Lecce and Genoa. Despite the limited number of goals, Coda’s contribution to Benevento’s attacking play was significant, helping the team gain promotion to Serie A. Overall, Coda scored 127 goals in 281 Serie B appearances, proving to be one of the most prolific attackers in the category.
Last Tuesday, Coda was in Formentera to attend Filippo Inzaghi’s wedding, together with his other companions. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that the possibility of Pisa’s interest in the striker may have emerged during the event. However, Pisa will first have to make space in their attack through some transfers. The company is evaluating high-level profiles, including Brunori, Lapadula and Coda.
There is no shortage of competition for the purchase of Coda and, even if it is premature to talk about concrete negotiations, the summer transfer market will officially begin on Monday 1 July. Pisa, meanwhile, has yet to announce the new coach and sporting director, crucial figures to guide the club’s transfer moves.
