Conference on Geology in Potenza

New perspectives for the geologists of the future

On Wednesday 26 June, at the university campus of Macchia Romana in Potenza, the conference “The new frontiers for the geologist of the future” will be held, organized by the University of Basilicata in collaboration with the Order of Geologists of Basilicata and the Society Italian Institute of Environmental Geology (SIGEA) of Basilicata. The event, which will take place in Room A4 of building 3A starting at 9 am, will address issues such as the contribution of geology in the study of climate change, the National Geological Cartography (CARG) project, the energy transition and environmental problems linked to industrial activities or the intensive exploitation of resources.

The initiative is aimed at exploring the new frontiers of the geologist profession and the new fields of application of geology. The organizers underline that the figure of the geologist is increasingly in demand and often takes on a central role in contemporary environmental challenges. During the conference, current job opportunities will be illustrated, with particular attention to the degree courses offered by Unibas, both the three-year degree in Environmental Geological Sciences and the master’s degree in Environmental Geology and Risks.

The day will end with a round table which will see the participation of the main operators in the sector at regional and national level, with the aim of outlining the skills necessary for future geologists trained at Unibas, preparing them to face the challenges of the gas market Work.
