Taxi in Rome, Mollicone’s attack (FdI): «Faster to fly to Europe than to go home». And controversy erupts

OfErica Dellapasqua

Complaints about the taxi service in the city explode on social media. After the stories of Brilli and Lucarelli, tweet by the journalist Schianchi: «If this is a civil capital…»

«Dear mayor Gualtieriin Fiumicino endless files And few taxis. It takes the same time to get home as a flight in Europe at medium distance. What will happen at the Jubilee? Do we want to talk about it in the Jubilee commission next time?” He writes it on X il FdI deputy and president of the Culture Committee of the Chamber Federico Molliconetagging Gualtieri and thus reopening the controversy on the few taxis in Rome.

A thorn in the side of the capital, a service cyclically criticized by users and at the center of various reform attempts which, however, for one reason or another, ultimately never come to fruition. The Common has promised a turning pointannouncing the tender (by July) for 1,000 new taxi licenses and 2,000 NCC licenses and recalling that 450 are already operational in the city double guides, which will rise to 800 by the end of the year. But the controversies do not subside and indeed, they travel quickly on social media.

Complaints on social media

Already the journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli had highlighted a complaint on X corresponding of the news agency ReutersCrispian Balmer, who recounted his misadventure: «I have waited 50 minutes for a taxi. Nothing. Nobody. I have surrendered. Rome doesn’t deserve tourists because it doesn’t have the courage to solve this age-old problem. Among other things, Rome’s taxi drivers said, on average, they earn approx 12,700 euros gross last year – 240 euros per week”, he wrote, closing with the emoticon of a laughing face.

Then Lucarelli’s comment: «Yesterday no taxis (there was a match!) or taxi drivers who usually want cash, abandoned tourists in the stations in Rome. Giorgia Meloni, see you next time instead of in the toy village in Puglia, organize the G7 in the taxi stations, so the rest of the world realizes how far ahead and launched towards the future we are.”

Schianchi and Mollicone’s tweet

Rain of messagesothers angry citizens and taxi drivers who instead defended the category. He also wrote on Saturday evening journalist Francesca Schianchi (Press and Propaganda): «Usual scary queue for taxis a Terms. Terrified foreigners asking if there is a strike. If this is one civil capital», wrote Schianchi on X adding the hashtag «shame».

But even before that theactress Nancy Brilli she filmed herself in an Instagram story documenting the odyssey to reach an event at the British embassy: «We want to go, do but let’s go? It will be the fault of the pilgrims”, the actress had written, ironically about the Jubilee and explaining that, in the end, in the absence of white cars she had been forced to ask for a lift to thebartender friend.

And now the intervention of Molliconewhich calls for interventions precisely with a view to Jubilee. To Mollicone, however, among others an insider also responds: «It’s true, there is a very long queue of passengers but there are also hundreds of taxis stopped in the dedicated car park 2 km away waiting for over an hour to enter. Those 5/10s you see are the ones called. You should study the problems before talking about them.”

The reply from the Municipality

Soon it arrives reply. «Dear Mollicone – the president of the Mobility commission of Roma Capitale intervenes Giovanni Zannola (Pd) – the Capitol has already done its part, in a few weeks there will be a call for 1000 licenses for taxis and another 2000 for NCCs. However, I would like to ask you one thing: have you asked the same question to your government and your majority? You know that the legislation of the Taxi And stops at ’92 – he adds -, a geological era ago compared to existing technology, and that taxis are not obliged to have on board devices that allow knowing if and where they are actually in service and that no municipal administration, precisely in the absence of regulations by law, is capable of oblige the taxi drivers to cover up determined areas or determined shifts like for example the Sundays? Concrete problems – concludes Zannola – which should be addressed in a serious and non-instrumental manner”.
