Thanks to the generosity of two families solidly linked to the Avis world, the Collection Unit of the Municipal Avis of Forlì was able to benefit from a technological upgrade, acquiring ten Omron M6 Comfort blood pressure monitors and two Gima Anpm 24h Holter blood pressure monitors. The provision of the new instruments was possible thanks to donations from the families Dovadola Gardens And Spaniards from Forlì.

The Giardini family of Dovadola wanted to remember the lady Marina Piovaccarimother of the president of the Avis Comunale of Dovadola Elisa Giardini (who obtained the silver badge for donations made). All blood donors, the members of the Giardini family also distinguished themselves for the role they played in the establishment of the Dovadola section of the Italian Blood Volunteers Association, of which Elisa Giardini’s father is co-founder.

Instead, Mrs Franca Nardi (who was awarded the gold ruby badge for her donations) and her children Gabriel And Lorenzo (also blood donors) wanted to remember their donor husband and father Massimo Spagnoli, already decorated with the gold badge with emerald for the 110 donations made. A luminous story of altruism that of the Spagnoli family, which also includes gold medals Valtiero Spagnoli (father of Massimo Spagnoli) e Easter Barucciborn in 1915, of whom Massimo Spagnoli was the nephew.

How are the new equipment ensuring even greater protection of the health of users of the Avis Forlì Collection Unit? Specifically, Omron M6 Comfort blood pressure monitors are equipped with a patented Intelli Wrap cuff to ensure a perfect fit on the arm. Their technology ensures that the underlying artery is not occluded in just one point, but along its entire length: there is therefore no wedge effect and the measurement is less painful. The blood pressure monitor technology also allows us to highlight potential atrial fibrillation (AFib), an often undetected condition that can lead to an increased risk of stroke and embolism.

The 24h Holter, however, allows the measurement of blood pressure for 24 hours, with cyclical measurements at an adjustable interval. It is a tool that allows 24-hour real-time monitoring, with data saving and the possibility of transferring it to a PC via dedicated software to be able to recall the data and print it.

“Measuring blood pressure – explains Dr Marco Gentile, manager of the Avis Forlì Collection Unit – is a mandatory element of the pre-donation visit. Being able to do this by ensuring reliable and updated technology makes everything safer. The measurement of blood pressure for 24 hours is also an additional service that we intend to offer to donors who fall into situations for which this diagnostic method is useful for better health protection, which the legislation itself entrusts – as well as to good medical practice – to the associative Collection Units”.
