The lawyer Francesco Ciardo, a historic figure of the Lecce Chamber of Commerce, having carried out the functions of General Secretary since 1981, when he won the competition for Senior Manager of the Ministry, has passed away at the age of 92 surrounded by family affection. of the Industry, until November 2001.

Francesco Ciardo was, within the Chamber of Commerce, a tireless promoter of entrepreneurial culture, also supporting Salento companies and their products abroad in many institutional initiatives. For a long time, he was the editor-in-chief of the economic magazine “Terra d’Otranto”, and he has made a tenacious commitment to disseminating the economic features of our territory.

He held the role of Director of two Special Chamber Companies and of the provincial Assonautica of Lecce. With his indisputable elegance, strong in his solid legal expertise, he seemed more like a diplomat than a manager, even when he spoke with farmers or entrepreneurs or in the presence of ministers and ambassadors. During his forty-year chamber mandate he also welcomed King Albert II of Belgium to the Institution, acting as spokesperson for effective international collaborations for that South which he always loved and cherished so much in his memories, until the end of his days, extolling in his thoughts and in his writings the beauty of the Capo di Leuca from which he came.

Awarded with various prestigious honours, including that of Knight of the Republic, Officer of the Republic and Commander, Francesco Ciardo was also a member of the Board of Directors of the “Tito Schipa” Musical Conservatory of Lecce for several terms and, lastly, President of the same institution.

In these hours, many young people, friends, his former collaborators and countless economic operators from the entire Salento, who had the pleasure of knowing him and appreciating his undisputed human and professional qualities, have joined in the pain of his wife, Professor Maria Luisa and her six children Maurizio, Gabriele, Alessandro, Anna Maria, Stefano and Rocco.
