Grosseto: Back for the 4th edition Grosseto of readers, the only stop in the Maremma area of ​​The City of Readers, the traveling festival that every year brings together prominent writers, publishers, translators and curators in Tuscany, organized by the CR Firenze Foundation and the Wimbledon APS Association under the direction of Gabriele Ametrano. “Reading changes everything”: this is the message that has accompanied the event since its birth. Appointment on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th June between the Troniera della Pro Loco (piazza del Popolo 3 – Bastione della Rimembranza) and the Polo Culturale Le Clarisse (via Vinzaglio 27) for two days of presentations, talks, guests, activities for young readers and a special event: the meeting with the finalist authors of the Strega Prize, who arrive in Grosseto for the first time on the tour that precedes the announcement of the winner. Grosseto dei Readers is created with the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the patronage, support and co-organization of the Municipality of Grosseto, the support and collaboration of the Grosseto Cultura Foundation and in partnership with Polo Culturale Le Clarisse, Pro Loco Grosseto and Libreria Mondadori (free entry , info: www.lacittadeilectori.it).

Starting Monday 24th at 5.00pm cwith a special free guided tour of the exhibition “Stile Cappiello. The revolution of art posters”, currently on display at the Le Clarisse Cultural Centre. A journey curated by Mirko Morini and Mauro Papa that starts from the works of one of the fathers of modern “poster art”, Leonetto Cappiello, with a particular focus on the posters from Federico Guidoni’s collection created in the 1920s, when the first advertising posters they arrived in Grosseto (reservations recommended at [email protected], meeting at 4.45pm in via Vinzagnio 27). The presentation will be in connection with the themes of the exhibition which, at 6.00 pm, will see Vanni Santoni in dialogue with Mauro Papa to tell the public about his “Spread everywhere” (Editori Laterza), a novel which between art galleries and train depots retraces the origins of street art and questions what remains, today, of the clandestine spirit that animated its origins. Following, at 7.00 pm, the writer and journalist Angelo Polimeno Bottai, introduced by the culture councilor of the Municipality of Grosseto Luca Agresti, will discuss his latest work “Mussolini I stop you” (Guerini and Associates): the daring life of Giuseppe Bottai , one of the most important hierarchs of the twenty years of fascism who fought against violence, regime propaganda and affiliation with Nazism by exposing himself personally, publishing censored books and articles by the greatest anti-fascist intellectuals and promoting the agenda that , on 25 July 1943, brought about the end of Mussolini and fascism.

Tuesday 25th departure again at the Le Clarisse cultural center at 5.00 pm with a workshop dedicated to young readers: starting from the illustrated books present in the Art Library and the posters on display the participants will be able to explore the idea of ​​collecting and create a small model of city ​​in which to display the works of important artists and create new ones (from 5 to 11 years old, booking recommended at [email protected]). At 6.00 pm with Nicoletta Verna, author awarded a special mention at the prestigious Calvino Prize, who together with the writer Luca Starita will talk about her latest work “I giorni di Vetro” (Einaudi): the story of Redenta, born in Castrocaro on the day of the Matteotti crime and symbol of stubborn human hope in the face of the scandal of history. At 7.00 pm there will be space for the Strega Prize sestina, this year composed of Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Dario Voltolini, Chiara Valerio, Paolo Di Paolo, Raffaella Romagnolo and Tommaso Giartosio, who will talk about their works introduced by the journalist Francesca Ciardiello.

“The fourth edition of Grosseto dei Readers is about to arrive in our city, an event of great cultural importance that celebrates the passion for reading and literature” declares the mayor of Grosseto Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna. “This festival represents a unique opportunity for citizens to meet writers, publishers and protagonists of the literary world in a context of culture and dialogue”.

“Welcoming the finalists of the Strega Prize for the first time in Grosseto is an honor that testifies to the growing importance of our festival in the Tuscan and national cultural panorama”, adds the Councilor for Culture Luca Agresti. “This year’s programme, full of events, presentations and debates, is an invitation to discover new perspectives and share the beauty of reading”.

“With the fourth edition of Grosseto dei Readers – says the president of the Grosseto Cultura Foundation, Giovanni Tombari – we take a further step forward: thanks to the event, the six finalists of the Premio Strega will arrive in our city, a unique opportunity which confirms the Grosseto’s great attention towards books and reading. The exhibition is part of those that Fondazione Cr Firenze finances and, in particular, in the “Mirrors of progress” project created by the Le Clarisse cultural centre. Grosseto is a fixed stop of the festival and this makes us very proud and also in this edition which returns to the Troniera of the Pro Loco at the Bastione della Rimembranza it will be an event not to be missed for our entire community”.

The journey of The City of Readers – which started at the beginning of May and has already passed through Piombino (Li), Calenzano (Fi), Prato, San Miniato (Pi), Florence and Poggibonsi (Si) – will continue with a fifth edition in Arezzo from 29 to 30 June, with a preview on the 27th. It continues in July for the fourth year in Montelupo Fiorentino (Fi), from the 4th to the 5th, and for the fifth in Villamagna (Pi), on the 6th. In September always a fourth edition in Bagno a Ripoli (Fi) from 13th to 15th. Again: Impruneta (Fi), already a stage of the festival in the last two years, joins two other municipalities in the Florentine Chianti – Tavarnelle and San Casciano in Val di Pesa – for a first edition of Readers’ Chianti, in October.

Seven provinces were touched, to reach an increasingly wider audience in small and large centres, adhering to the regional Pact for reading promoted by the Tuscany Region and the Pacts for reading of the cities that have received the “City that reads” recognition of the Center for the book and reading of the Ministry of Culture.
