Three hidden gems of Veneto to visit this summer

Summer is now here, but with the uncertain weather that has characterized the last few weeks it can become difficult to be able to organize a fun and different weekend than usual with certainty. If you are looking for off-the-beaten-path destinations where you can spend this Sunday in the name of tranquility and discovery, Veneto can offer surprises. Here are three little-known destinations to reach on this day.

Asolo: the village of artists and poets

Perched among the hills of the Treviso area, Asolo is a small village that seems to have come out of a postcard. Known as “The city of a hundred horizons”, Asolo has inspired artists and poets for centuries. Among its narrow cobbled streets, it is easy to get lost in time, imagining the illustrious figures who have stayed there, such as the English writer Freya Stark and the actress Eleonora Duse.

Not to be missed: the Rocca di Asolo which dominates the town from above, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills. Also visit the Civic Museum to learn more about local history and admire works of art. For a culinary break, try local specialties in traditional restaurants and enjoy a good glass of Prosecco.

Montagnana: the city of perfect walls

Located in the province of Padua, Montagnana is famous for its perfectly preserved medieval walls. This little urban jewel offers visitors a journey through time, with its 2 kilometers of circular walls that enclose the historic center. Montagnana is also known for its Prosciutto Veneto Berico-Euganeo DOP festival, an unmissable gastronomic event.

Not to be missed: stroll along the walls, which offer a unique perspective on the city and its surroundings, and visit the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. And don’t forget to pop into Villa Pisani, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, sadly closed but equally fabulous to look at too. Culminate the visit with a tasting of local ham in one of the historic butchers.

Cison di Valmarino: a fairytale village near the Pre-Alps

Cison di Valmarino, located in the province of Treviso, is an enchanting village nestled among the Prosecco hills. This small town, awarded the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club, is a real refuge away from the urban frenzy. Its tranquil atmosphere, combined with the natural beauty of the surroundings, makes it a perfect destination for a relaxing weekend.

Explore the historic center and visit Castelbrando Castle, one of the most evocative medieval buildings in the Veneto, now transformed into a luxury hotel. Walk the Sentiero dei Mulini, a fascinating naturalistic itinerary that follows the ancient water mills. For foodies, a stop at one of the local wineries to taste the Prosecco Superiore wine is a must.

Veneto offers much more than its famous tourist destinations. Asolo, Montagnana and Cison di Valmarino are just some of the hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. These enchanting villages, with their ancient walls, picturesque alleys and culinary delights, represent the ideal choice for a summer weekend dedicated to relaxation, culture and tradition. All that remains is to set off to discover these hidden gems.
