Bad weather in Italy after the great heat. There is a yellow alert for scattered to widespread precipitation, with a prevalent downpour or thunderstorm character in Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, as well as in sectors of Lombardy, Marche and Abruzzo. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.
In the Vicenza area, flooding in Asiago and Gallio and landslides in the Schio area
Since 4 this morning the firefighters have been busy in the municipalities of Asiago and Gallio, in the province of Vicenza, due to the heavy torrential rains that hit the two municipalities with the flooding of two streams. Over 60 calls to the 115 operations room, mainly due to flooding of streets, shops, basements, garages and rooms below the road surface. Teams from Vicenza and volunteer staff from the Thiene and Recoaro detachments were then added to the Asiago firefighters at night.
The situation is now improving, with the waterways flowing back into the riverbeds and there is no news of anyone injured. In the Schio area, however, the firefighters intervened following a landslide in Contrà Masetto and to clear the road from San Rocco di Tretto to the town of Schleden, where during the night a tree that fell on the ring road blocked traffic. Other interventions involved flooding of the basement and rooms below the ground floor.
Roads blocked in the Belluno area
Shortly after dawn today, the Feltre firefighters and Veneto Strada technicians had to intervene in the municipality of Sovramonte (Belluno) due to a washout of debris that invaded the carriageway of Regional Road 50 which connects Fonzaso with Predazzo in Trentino Alto Adige. Similar intervention was also carried out on the Trentino side of the road. Shortly before 6am, the firefighters of the Lower Feltre area intervened on another landslide in Lamon, along the Sp 40. Also in this case, a Veneto roads vehicle intervened to clear the roadways.
