Trieste, the coast invaded by mucilage has its hours numbered: the Bora is arriving

TRIESTE – For over a week the mucilage has invaded part of the coasts of the Adriatic but it seems that the greatest concentration is especially along the hump of the sea, once the algae have moved northwards and stopped, that is, in Trieste, its province and part of the remaining coast of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The coasts of Trieste, including the Grand Canal and Muggia, are completely covered in grey-green substances with strange veins reminiscent of marble.

Last night we were expecting the bora to sweep the sea and mix the waters but the gusts were very light and therefore the situation is practically unchanged. In the next few hours, however, Osmer forecasts signal the arrival of sustained gusts (up to 70 km/h) which should – together with a slight drop in temperature – sweep away the phenomenon which is very evident, especially in areas such as marinas where the water is more stagnant and clearly shows a yellowish patina and arouses the curiosity of tourists and citizens. The optical aspect is associated with the olfactory one because the phenomenon involves a smell that can be felt even from meters away.

Ogs experts are monitoring the phenomenon and in recent days have reassured swimmers by specifying that there are no health risks. However, many prefer to avoid diving and this is causing concern among the owners of bathing establishments.
