An incident of fuel theft occurred in the Baraccola area of Ancona, where three individuals were caught stealing diesel fuel from a heavy vehicle. The police officers of the Ancona police station caught the three men red-handed while they were busy pouring the fuel, in agreement with the employee of the company that owns the vehicle.

The legal representative of the transport company, based in Bolzano, filed a complaint as soon as he heard the news of the incident. The accused are a 35-year-old Italian of Moldovan origin, with a criminal record for crimes against property, and two Moldovan citizens, aged 47 and 44 respectively. The 47-year-old is legal in Italy, while the 44-year-old has a criminal record and an oral warning issued by the Police Headquarters of Ancona in 2018.

The episode occurred late yesterday morning. The officers surprised the three men while they were tinkering on a road tractor, having already filled several cans of diesel. At the scene of the crime, next to the two men near the tractor, a plastic pipe approximately 2.5 meters long was found with a metal pump for transferring fuel, still dripping with diesel, and a 25 liter canister ready to be loaded into the trunk of the car. Five more cans full of fuel were already lined up in the car. The tractor’s fuel cap was still open and smeared with an oily substance.

The 44-year-old, who had a regular rental contract for the car with a company in Bolzano, told the officers that he had met the Italian citizen shortly before in a business in the area. The latter allegedly offered him to buy the diesel for his vehicle in exchange for financial compensation.

The tractor in question appeared to be rented to a transport company in Rome, for which the Italian citizen worked as a professional driver with a regular contract. The vehicles and diesel cans were seized and made available to the judicial authorities.

This operation made it possible to stop an illicit activity that could have caused significant economic damage to the transport company involved. The timely intervention of the police officers from the Ancona police headquarters ensured that those responsible were promptly reported, avoiding further thefts and strengthening security in the Baraccola area.
