locked ballot boxes and doubts about abstentionism

The first enemy to defeat is theabstentionism. The “two days” of ballot in the municipalities of Aversa, Casal di Principe and Castel Volturno which failed to elect the mayor in the first round, but we will have to deal with the beautiful sunny days which especially today will push many citizens towards seaside destinations rather than into the hot polls. We vote today from 7am to 11pm And tomorrow from 7am to 3pm.

The counting of ballots will begin immediately after the conclusion of voting. It is above all the coastal city that is worrying given that 14 days ago only 54.91% of citizens went to vote compared to around 71% in the province of Caserta, while the Norman city and that of the Aversa countryside remained at the provincial average. The seats were duly constituted with the members who resigned in recent days promptly replaced. Seats that are under the lens not only of the mayoral candidates but also of the police.

There preccint has in fact arranged, as happened during the first round, a strengthening of the control services And vigilance connected to voting. Particular attention in all three municipalities even if for different reasons. In fact, if in Casale the news events are of concern (the day before the polls opened, shots were fired at the home of Emanuele Libero Schiavone, who was later arrested together with Francesco Reccia), in Aversa the issue is more linked to a possible anomalous turnout urns and in Castel Volturno there is the memory of the photographed ballot.

Aversa it is the municipality that calls the most voters to arms: 40,226 for 51 open sections. TO Castel Volturno, however, there are 21,036 voters in the field (10,590 men and 10,446 women) divided into 19 sections. TO Casal di Principe it’s up to 17,006 voters (8,297 men and 8,709 women) with 16 sections open. In Aversa the match is between the president of the Order of Accountants of Naples North Francesco Matacena And Antonio Farinaro, lawyer and former prime minister. In the first round Matacena won 49.3% of the preferences, supported by seven civic lists. Farinaro, who leads a centre-right coalition, instead starts from 25.87% with a substantial difference in preferences between the two challengers: 13,319 compared to the first compared to 6,986 for the second. If Matacena were to win in the runoff, his coalition would obtain a majority bonus of 60% (15 councilors elected in addition to the mayor). If, however, Antonio Farinaro were to win the run-off, the lame duck hypothesis would arise, i.e. the candidate for mayor without a full majority.

In Casal di Principe the challenge is between Ottavio Corvino which starts from 3,724 with 39.7% obtained two weeks ago and which closed the agreement with Lia Caterino (who won around 12% in the first round) and Elisabetta Corvino which can count on 2,765 votes with 22.05%. Of course, everything can change during the runoff and it will be difficult to maintain these numbers. No relation for the other two defeated mayoral candidates Antonio Natale and Marisa Diana, who left a wide range of choice to their voters. In Castel Volturno they compete for the title Anastasia Petrellawhich made official the relationship with Cesare Diana and his three lists, and Pasquale Marrandinowho arrived almost tied in the first round with just over a hundred votes difference. The candidate obtained 32.73% of the votes while her challenger in the run-off got 33.88%. But above all they are the ones who have to try to convince residents to go to the polls to avoid another flop like what happened on 8 and 9 June.
