Ancona, 22 June 2024- A rainbow wave, festive and noisy, it poured into the city center this afternoon: the Marche Pride parade it invaded Viale della Vittoria starting at 4pm and then merged into Corso Garibaldi and ended in Piazza Cavour between performances and interventions by the associations.
The initiative was promoted by the Marche Pride Committee which brings together the main LGBTQIA+ and civil rights associations in the region
The capital was among the 9 cities that today i marched for i rights of LGBT people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer), under the coordination of Arcigay.
“We are the real country – he underlined Gabriele Piazzoni, general secretary of Arcigay – we are a collector of requests that concern minorities and beyond and go beyond LGBT issues. Thousands of people took to the streets to express their dissent against an increasingly repressive policy.” “Ours is a demonstration of cheerful joy – Maria recalled Cristina Mochi of the Marche Pride committee – we want to bring back to society the right to be oneself. Complex families are the building block of a complex society and we will continue to defend our freedom.”

As illustrated by activists, abuse, complaints and violence against the LGBT community are on a worrying increase. “Pride is our way of resist attacks and discrimination that we have suffered for decades.”
The initiative was promoted by Pride Marches Committee which brings together the main LGBTQIA+ associations and those fighting for civil rights in the Region: – Agedo Marche – Arcigay Agorà Pesaro-Urbino – Arcigay Comunitas Ancona – Associazione Teekanne – GAP Urbino – Uaar Ancona. The secretary of Arcigay Ancona Matteo Marchegiani wanted to emphasize the relationship with the institutions: “We need answers but we haven’t found any from the Region. This year too we were denied (non-onerous) patronage, as was the Municipality of Ancona. But we are here and our presence cannot be ignored.”
Among the requests brought forward by the procession, law 194 on pregnancy interruption, parenting, disability, the law on euthanasia, mental health, gender violence, fatphobia and non-conforming bodies, anti-speciesism, inclusive language. “In fact, those who lead the Region are trying to make access to thevoluntary termination of pregnancy – the Committee explains – to women and all other pregnant people. Abortion is a hard-won right and we have every intention of defending it.”
Giacomo Galeotti of Arcigay Ancona-Pesaro and secretary of the Marche Pride joked about “faggotness”, taking up Pope Francis’ recent statements: “We have the right to respect – he commented – Queer culture must be recognized and should be studied at school”.
