“Modica Summer Fest 2024” presented this morning

“Modica Summer fest 24” was presented this morning in Modica at Palazzo San Domenico. A full and varied program of initiatives also achieved thanks to the contribution of 145 thousand euros from the region.
There are many initiatives starting from the removal of the umbrella stalls on the beach to encourage the nesting of sea turtles. The administration’s intent is to transform Marina di Modica, a seaside village, into a tourist city in all respects. Many topics have been touched upon since the opening of Piazza Mediterraneo.

There was also talk of parking… councilor Belluardo specified how 250 more free spaces have been recovered compared to last year, while paid parking, the so-called blue lines, will only be present in the third square.

As far as traffic is concerned, Piazza Mediterraneo will be closed up to the intersection with the tobacconist every evening from 7pm to 2am, thus leaving the new square and all of Corso Mediterraneo pedestrianised. The Monday morning market in the third square remains confirmed, as do the farmers’ markets on Tuesday and Friday.

The social services councilor Chiara Facello spoke of an increasingly inclusive city with many activities designed and aimed at children: creative workshops and a white night that will be held in September entirely dedicated to the little ones.

Councilor Samuele Cannizzaro highlighted how this year the program is full of proposals designed especially for young people, with initiatives also on the beach. At the Marina di Modica auditorium, said councilor Cannizzaro, two study rooms have been created, we have planned for the first time in the seaside town the dog walking area in the area between the former South lido and the Corallo lido. Numerous sporting events are also planned.

Councilor Antonio Drago who spoke about a bus line that will connect Modica with Marina di Modica and Maganuco and which includes different running times even until late at night, thanks to the active collaboration with Sais transport. Two bus stops have been identified: one at the Carabinieri barracks, the other near the church, all to ensure greater safety in the movement of young people as well as families who find themselves wanting to reach the seaside town with alternative means of transport . Special attention will also be paid to the seaside village of Maganuco where a significant increase in parking has been foreseen.

Councilor Antoci highlighted the careful and accurate work carried out over several months to ensure that the Modican summer involved as many people as possible, on 27 July it will be the turn of Ludwig in Piazza Mediterraneo, on Saturday 10 August Carmen Consoli and on 25 August Edoardo Bennato at the auditorium. The “Notte della Taranta” is also scheduled in Modica and the “Peppe Greco memorial” will be held in the last week of September, a historic sporting event which this year will be hosted in Modica.

Councilor Delia Vindigni focused on the sustainability of the summer program, which avoided a significant burden on the municipal coffers. Another important event is the “Scenari” literary festival which from this year will be simultaneously translated into the Italian sign language LIS. Finally, the Mayor highlighted the work that is being done in synergy with the other municipalities of the province in order to give citizens a program that is as varied and harmonious as possible, thus avoiding the holding of important events on the same day.
