“Our battle against differentiated autonomy continues”

“Our battle against differentiated autonomy continues. We do it in the name of the many who a year ago in this province also joined our petition to say no to an unjust law and ask for a step back from the pied pipers of our local politics who, even in these hours, support the unsustainable. We ask for respect and equal opportunities for the people of Catania, who are threatened today like never before.” This was stated by the general secretaries of CGIL and UIL Catania, Carmelo De Caudo and Enza Meli.

“Exactly one year ago, we decided to start collecting signatures in Catania in via Santa Maria La Grande in front of the ASP headquarters, a symbolic place of that right to health that the so-called Calderoli reform further puts at risk. A risk first and foremost for those who cannot afford the cost of paid treatments and journeys of hope. This, however, is only a slice of the poisoned apple that even representatives of the people of Catania in political institutions now offer us, selling it to us as magnificent. They pass it off to us as a formidable reform, but instead it is a counter-reform that will add hardship to hardship in the South. Here more than anywhere else.”

“Differentiated autonomy – conclude De Caudo and Meli – will increase the gap between the North and South of the country, as well as between urban areas and internal communities where the imbalance in the essential levels of performance is already evident. We do not accept and will never accept that changing the place of birth or residence changes the prerogatives and dignity of people. Not guaranteeing education, health, safety and work in an equitable way, without territorial distinctions, is a betrayal of the citizenship pact. This law is unjust, we at CGIL and UIL will fight it with all the democratic tools available.”
