Sim Marina, the national congress in La Spezia: “Repeated boardings are a phenomenon not to be underestimated”

The Marshal Warner Greco he is the first general secretary of the military union SIM Marina. Native of Crotone, but based in La Spezia for 28 years, he was elected during the first national congress which was held in the auditorium of the Regional Media Library in Via Firenze. An event in its own way, given that professional associations of a trade union nature among soldiers are authorized by law only from the summer of 2022. A reality that is therefore taking its first steps, having to overcome a certain skepticism of colleagues as well as creating a relationship with the vertices.

“We want to be the glue between the Navy General Staff and the crews – explains Greco -. The Navy plays a critical role for the country on the international scene, with the deployment of many units in distant seas and for this reason we think there is a need for attention to the well-being of personnel. In a context of personnel suffering that affects all the armed forces, this is an aspect that is particularly felt for us given the many units that entered service with the Naval Law. I am thinking of the Fremm, the multi-purpose offshore patrol boats, the Vulcano and soon the Trieste. The phenomenon of repeated boardings should not be underestimated.”

The La Spezia elections, in addition to the Greco secretary, appointed the deputy Francesco Carlucci while the president is Antonio Colombo from La Spezia. His deputies will be Francesco Cacace And Walter Gianardi, this last one also from La Spezia. SIM Marina today has over 1,300 members and is organized into four area secretariats: Islands (Sicily and Sardinia), Central Area (Campania, Lazio, Tuscany), Puglia (Taranto and Brindisi) and Northern Area (Liguria and Veneto).

Present at the congress were, among others, the mayor Pierluigi Peracchini, the senator Stefania Pucciarelli, the honorable Maria Grazi Frijia, the president of the regional council Gianmarco Medusei, the regional councilor and regional secretary of the Democratic Party Davide Natale, the president of the city council Salvatore Piscopo and councilor Pietro Antonio Cimino. Also present was Admiral Flavio Biaggi, commander of the Northern Navy.

The first topic brought to the table together with other trade unions was that of mission allowances for those involved in the Red Sea to guarantee the safety of commercial traffic. “It’s time to modify law 145/16 which regulates international missions to avoid having to think only through the instrument of derogation – says Greco -. We are inclined to meet local realities as soon as possible to establish relationships that allow us to work together for the future”.
