At the linguistic high school “Giovanni Falcone” Of Bergamo from September we will also talk about Korean in the classroom. Twenty-four students in the first year they will begin a course that will last until the high school diploma, to learn the oriental language. The idea was born from the synergy between a professor of the school, the principal Gloria Farise and the consulate of South Korea in Italy. A real innovation in the panorama of Italian education because the “Falcone” will be the first institute in Italy to activate curricular teaching of Korean language and literature in a first class.

A proposal that has already attracted the attention of Korean companies present in Lombardy and above all that of the Consul General of Korea, Kang Hyung Shikwho in recent days has paid homage to the city of Bergamo and the “Falcone” high school by announcing his intention to form partnerships relationships also between the Bergamo institute and a Korean school. The school director explains the project: “Our high school, which only has a linguistic focus and has approx sixty classeshas a tradition of paying attention to the oriental world that dates back to the 2010/11 school year when my predecessor and his staff understood the importance of introducing the ChineseThe Japanese and theArabic. Since 2018/19 we have added the Russian and it was a success.”

Before also offering Korean, the school did a real test market survey to understand if the local economy And regional had some interests in this part of the world: “We – continues the manager – also sent a letter to the comprehensive institutions of the area to organize a afternoon course of Korean so as to test interest”. An initiative that involved several kids from both the “Falcone” and local middle schools, so much so that it achieved the numbers required by law to organize a class: “But we still have places. If any young people would like to sign up, it is welcome”, says Farisé.

A teacher will teach Korean 27 years old of the province of Vicenza who also lived two years in Korea as well as a native speaker (married to a Bergamo man) who will be present a few hours per week in school. A satisfaction for the director and the staff of the school: “South Korea has many points in common with Italy: it is a growing economic power and this will give great possibilities in the world of Work to our graduates. Our satisfaction is truly great and the school’s collaboration with the Bergamo area at an institutional level is fundamentalbeing oriented towards strengthening the link with Korea.” The Consul General, however, was keen to underline the points in common between the two countries: cuisine, the bond with the family and the school system. “This is the third time I have visited Liceo Falcone – explained Kang Hyung Shik – Today I would like to greet the director, the authorities present, the students and the parents. After working three years in your beautiful country, I am ready to return to Korea with a great satisfaction”.
